FSL INTRODUCES NEW ‘PRO LEAGUES’ FOR THE 2010 HURLEY PRO!

Hello everyone and welcome back to California! As the world’s best surfers descend upon California’s premier wave, San Onofre State Beach - Lower Trestles, we are stoked and ready to witness another event that will be a huge factor in the 2010 ASP World Title race. On September 12, the elite in professional surfing will join the world’s most “rippable” wave, armed with a new World Tour seeding format and the most progressive judging criteria in ASP history. This is the first event that the ASP World Tour will narrow its field to 32 surfers instead of 45.

In the current world title race, South African Jordy Smith leads, but nine-time world champ Kelly Slater only trails him by 250 points for what would be an unprecedented, and once considered unfathomable, 10th world title. As in years past, the Hurley Pro typically serves as the turning point in the world title race. Win here, and athletes are propelled into the final stretch with tremendous momentum. Mick Fanning did just that in 2009 when he came from behind to take the Hurley Pro title and then, three months later, his second world title.

All of the dramatic action will be captured with state-of-the-art live webcasts that give surfing fans and all sports enthusiasts a birds-eye view of the competition. Multiple camera angles and water cams will deliver competition heats along with exclusive behind-the-scenes moments. In addition, the Hurley Pro will have an official App for iPhone and iPad, bringing the live event to the palm of your hand.

Finally, FSL is stoked to announce the introduction of our new Pro League's! You will now have a chance to compete against pro surfing fans all around the world for a chance to win cash prizes as you follow the action.With that said, here is your FSL Guide to the 2010 Hurley Pro.

Who's in?

The 32 man field will be joined by Hurley Wildcard Rob Machado (USA) and Hurley Pro Trials Winner Kolohe Andino (USA). Both of these surfers are Lowers locals and have dominated contests regularly in the past. They will have tough draws in Round 1 against Kelly Slater andJordy Smith respectively, but could stand to do servere damage with the new ASP format. ASP surfer's rep Kieren Perrow (AUS) and USA's Gabe Kling have also been given ASP Wildcards and will be on Tour for the rest of the year.

Kai Otton (AUS)is en route to Trestles and will return to action after missing JBay and Tahiti with a neck injury. And Tom Whitaker (AUS) will replace Joel Parkinson as he is now the ASP 1st Injury Replacement.

Who's out?

Joel Parkinson(AUS) - Parko injured his foot free-surfing and has announced he will not return until the 2010 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing where he is the defending champion.

Who's Questionable?

-Daniel Ross (AUS) missed the Billabong Pro Tahiti with an injury but seems to be surfing and should be at the Hurley Pro.

-Dean Morrison(AUS) is the 2nd ASP Injury Replacement and would replace Dan Ross in the event that Ross withdraws.

Draft League Info: The FSL Draft League has become a Pro League that offers cash prizes. Players must purchase a team and then sign up for a Draft Time by contacting us via emailor on the forum! Users who buy teams will be entered in Live Drafts that will be formed on a first-come, first-serve basis on selected dates. We are looking at a tentative Draft date for the evening of Thursday September 9th, Live on FSL. The Draft League, in our opinion, makes the event even more exciting to follow as each individual surfer can only be picked by 1 team per league. It really makes every guy on your team count and takes serious skill, knowledge, and strategy!
